HOWTO: Fix the system settings crash in KDEmod

This crash is pretty frequent on fresh installations of the KDEmod, and while searching for info on lots of places I found the solution on the chakra forums.

This howto is very short and easy to follow, and I post it on newbie corner forum because I dont know where to post it (the wiki????)

If your KDEmod installation crashes when you open:
1)system settings--> package management
2)shaman--> tools --> settings --> aqpm databases configuration

All you have to do is simple, this problem happens because when you generated the best mirrors for your location using rankmirrors (you did? right?) Rankmirrors appends a comment saying:

# Server list generated by rankmirrors on 2009-09-04

Apparently, even if the word "Server" is commented out, this causes the applications to crash (yes, very weird), so the only thing you have to do is edit the mirrorlist and erase that word, then save and close.

So go ahead, open a terminal and do:

sudo kate /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

NOTE: if you want to do this via a terminal editor, just replace the kate part with "nano" or your favorite text editor.

and change the line

# Server list generated by rankmirrors on 2009-09-04

to

# List generated by rankmirrors on 2009-09-04

Save, close and enjoy

As much as your help is appreciated, the forum isn't the place for howto's. We'd be glad to see your howto in the wiki, however.

thats why I asked, going to ass this to the wiki then

where on the wiki? its VERY big, and I dont want to mess up anything. Should I just create a new article?

I think it is best you do yes, and maybe link to it somewhere in the KDE/rankmirrors sections .

The whole thing seems a bit bizarre to me but then again I haven't experienced it myself (I use rankmirrors quite frequently but I never have it generate a mirror file).

you can Try it and confirm it works(or doesnt) so I have certainty that it would help more people

and yeah Its very bizarre, I tought exactly the same
