I'm checking out audio players (Amarok v1 remains a favorite, but time to move on I guess) and I can't seem to get Xine and, by extension, Goggles MM, to play audio. Flash works fine, as does MPD / Sonata. If I run goggles with the --xine-debug, I get this worrisome output:

I have an ALC888 sound card and I wonder if the bit about 4.1 channel not enabled is the problem, as I do, in fact, have 4.1 channel.

I think your audio hardware is fine. Have you tried playing any other file format (mp3,ogg) just to be sure?
Xine has two flac decoders and the default one is known to be buggy. You can use the other one by either:
1) delete ffmpeg decoder plugin
rm /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.27/xineplug_decode_ff.so
2) Change the decoder priority
vim ~/.xine/catalog.cache
Look for the section "[/usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.27/xineplug_flac.so]" that has the "decoder_priority" setting. (there are actually two such sections; the other one has "demuxer_priority").
Then change the value to 8:
'decoder_priority=5' => 'decoder_priority=8'
After this you shouldn't see any [flac @ 0x18d4ac0] output on the console when playing flac files.

Yeah, it doesn't play MP3s either, so I don't think it is a problem with just FLAC.
