File tagging & indexing ?

What options are out there when it comes to adding tags and indexing files' content ?

The only solution I've tried is tracker, but it's *really* slow on my computer, it hasn't managed to index my 160gb drive in a couple of weeks time, and gets a corrupt index every few days.

Are there any decent, non-DE specific applications for this ?

cheers

I don't know whether it can add tags.

I don't think it does tags, and for some reason, i nerver liked it (search is too 'broad', you end up with tons of files that you have to go through in your browser in pages of 10 or so ...)

thanks anyway smile

Not sure if it does tags, but Linux Format magazine #127 picked recoll as the best indexing package, with beagle, despite its reputation as a resource hog, a close second.

Seems like it does not, but I'll be trying it out anyway, looks like a keeper...
