I have been having a few issues with the NZ mirror, however they have been sorted. I have -Syy'ed a couple of times and get back:
:: Starting full system upgrade...
local database is up to dateWhich I know isn't the case as I visited the mirror via a browser and I can see Thunderbird 3 sitting there (taunting me)...
So I did a
# absand now in /var/abs/extra/ I have thunderbird 3 sitting there. How is that possible?

What is the last sync time on the db file?

How would I find that?

You open up the address in a browser and see all the files on the mirror and the dates they changed, there should be a file called extra.db.tar.gz which is the file listing what's on the mirror. You can also check mirror status on this page https://users.archlinux.de/~gerbra/mirrorcheck.html

Thanks mcmillan: I couldn't find an extra.db.tar.gz file in the root or in either core, extra or community directories on the server, but the last modified date on each of the repos was either 17 or 18 December...
And, unfortunately, the NZ mirror is unofficial, so doesn't appear on the mirrorcheck page...

What is the output of:
pacman -Si thunderbirdEnglish is not my native language .

It was: thunderbird-2.x.x (not at work at the moment so can't be sure of the exact version, but it was definitely 2).
And the PKGBUILD in ABS was for thunderbird-3.x

check how much out of date is your mirror: https://users.archlinux.de/~gerbra/mirrorcheck.html

The mirror (http://mirror.ihug.co.nz/archlinux) isn't listed on the ~gebra page. In any event, how would it be possible for ABS to be up-to-date but a -Syyu return older packages? That is what I am confused by...

My abs.conf (which I have not changed) has this:
# Server to sync from
#
SYNCSERVER="rsync.archlinux.org"So I assume it uses this as opposed to what's in the pacman mirrorlist, hence the potential difference.

Thanks Loafer: I hadn't realized that the PKGBUILDs were synced for a different server. D'oh!
@ wonder: My problem is I can't change to another mirror - not unless I want to try and maintain 2 Arch machines with only 30 K/s access to mirrors...
I'll mark this as solved: I had (naively) assumed that ABS was synced from the pacman.d/mirrorlist.
