I've tried everything I can think of and found while googln to get this to run, but after the initiial splash screen when launching the client it just dissapears. I play it alot usually and it's only thing I miss from winblows. Please help, gimme some idea?
Is anyone running the latest Dominion client under arch successfully, even partially will do.
if so
What do you use to run it? wine, cxoffice, cedega etc and what versions are they?
Cheers

hm..no problems over here...
all I did is pacman -S wine and it worked
EDIT: well, you of course have to install the proper fonts and directx and such, but I assume you've done that..

Ok well I decided to give it another go and I got oh so close for it working. This is what I did
I installed wine again
pacman -S wine
I copied my truetype fonts from usr/share/fonts/TTF to my .wine/drive_c/windows/fonts/
I installed directx 9 with winetricks
sh winetricks d3dx9
I ran the eve.exe file with "wine eve.exe" and it showed the splash screen and then it booted to a black screen and the familiar looking mouse pointer came up, I was chuffed, then suddenly I got a Program Error window telling me "The program ExeFile.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close." etc
I tried runnin the ExeFile from the bin directory directly with "wine ExeFile.exe" but I got the same results.
Gutted but closer than I've ever been before. Is there anything that stands out that I've missed or anythin, params I could try with wine mebe I'm so close I know I am.
Just as a side note the secondlife linux client runs flawless so I know my sys is capable of displaying eve.
Cheers

Edit: I've now tried installing corefonts with winetricks, using winecfg and enable the virtyal desktop option in the Graphics tab and Prayed.
All to no avail
There has to be summut

I did it!
I got myself logged in eve
It was uber laggy, but I did it. I sent a corp mail.
I then disabled the virtual desktop CCP reccomends in winecfg and tried again, voila lag gone, it crashes a fair bit, gonna be hard to mine and not get blown up, but I feckin did it!
So I know now it was all down to the drivers I were usin. I changed 96xx for 173xx and got me login screen etc
So chuffed . I know now that I can improve on the stability with better drivers.
So question is now, what drivers are reccomended for a nvidia 7600GT/GS (aint sure what it is now)

Quick note, the lag might be down to the high settings I had when I first logged in so the emulation might not have effected it as much as I thought.
I went from my sys to next door in a shuttle and back again, swapped for ret and went and did a bit of minin and docked back @ station, quit game meself.
It's a start next is corp ops and then when I trust it I can start solo mining again
<--- Chuffed. Arch Linux you rock!

Glad, you got it working Jabb3r. Just FYI for future reference, WineHQ is usually a real good resource to find out and setup games. Eve, can be found here:

Your card is supported by the latest drivers (190.53).
Install nvidia instead of nvidia-173xx
Offline
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try the new drivers in a sec, just gettin to my eve distination . Life is good
Now to get this M$ usb headset goin. arch finds it, but can only hear sound through my onboard nvidia card.
Offline
Ok lil update and a query.
nvidia drivers are alot lot better, thought my card would be old in nvidia eyes so thanks for that
I've made some progress with me headset. I installed pulase audio and using padsp I can get sound through them which is awsome, however if I try doing things per the wiki regarding adding daemons etc the system doesn't even load and when it does (can't remember what worked) gdm fails to load, soon as pulse audio daemon is disabled things are fine, so I created a launcher for vlc for now and will try the user speciffic settings instead soon.
nothin seems impossible in arch, just a matter of time.
It's pretty awsome tbh
Cheers

Edit: Just found this, might be worth a go, the rebuildin things after pulse makes a bit of sense.
I've got gnome 2.28, but mebe needs the same?
link helps eh

hm...just switched to xmonad, seems to screw eve up. it'll just quit/restart after 20-60 seconds of opening it =/.
Well, if I start it from the prompt, it'll restart. From a terminal, it'll just lock up that workspace.
