It's weird that when I start firefox from KDE's kickoff menu, the startup is very slow. Altough I can browse web while the mouse icon shows still busy (the bouncing firefox icon ). However, when I start firefox from command line, there isn't this problem. What's the difference between starting from menu and comand line?

did you take a look at what command the menu item actually executes?

it's "firefox %u".

Welcome to the forums.
KDE knows that Firefox is doing something, so it keeps the busy cursor up until it stops. It was like that in KDE years ago when I was still using it. It also does that in Awesome WM today. It's annoying. The only way that I know how to deal with it is to disable KDE's application launch feedback (or whatever it's called) or to set a shorter time out for it.

Thank you very much! That solves the problem.

Just disable launch feedback for firefox only. As it is nice for kde apps.
