quick'n'dirty osd display

I want png images (or plain text) to be displayed transparently as an on-screen-display.
Does anyone know what I could use for that? An image viewer with true transparency support would suffice. I don't want to use feh, because I don't know if he can display it on screen and I don't want to do autoprops for it (removing border) because I use it as default image viewer.
Has anybody an Idea?

It's probably the wrong forum, but I didnt know any better category

Conky should be able to handle all the display quite nicely, just the first program that comes to my mind. It should be possible to pipe a config to it and kill it after a short period of time or something along those lines

You could try ghosd. It has an example which displays images as an osd.
