Problems with radeon HD 4850.

On my fresh install of Archlinux, I had horrible framerates on glxgears, between 30 and 90 fps. Upon checking errors.log, i found the following two errors:

Upon reading trough the ati wiki page, i tried disabling KMS by adding "nomodeset" to the kernel line of menu.lst, but now i get the following error trying to launch glxgears:

drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. See dmesg for info.
