Hey, I'm using kdemod, and I can't get amarok to play anything. It shows the song progressing, but no sound is produced. I can't play ogg's or mp3's, which play fine in vlc and juk. I've seen some other people with this issue, but I'm also noticing something that no one else is having happen. When I open amarok it asks me to enter my wallet password. When I try the password, it says it's incorrect. I usually try entering it a few times, then close it, at which point amarok opens normally. I've also tried opening amarok in terminal with sudo, but it won't open.

The wallet password likely has to do with Last.fm. Disable that if you don't use it.
KDE apps won't open with sudo because of DBus issues; use kdesu. But running amarok as root won't help and might be dangerous.
As for sound, what phonon backend do you have? You may have to install some plugins from the group gstreamer0.10-plugins (I forget which ones). I just use the phonon-xine backend, and it works fine.

I haven't had any luck getting xine to play, while gstreamer (via pragha, sonata & sfmedia) works just fine. Goggle Music Manager uses xine and I just can't get it to work. So, as tavianator suggested, see if you can change the backend to use gstreamer instead of xine.

I installed kdemod-phonon-backend-gstreamer (I had kdemod-phonon-backend-xine originally), and that solved the problems. Thanks for all the help.
