UT2004 -- Any particular trick to install?

I tried installing UT2004 last night using the linux installer that comes on CD1.

It appeared to go through the install fine, then crapped out at the end of the install (after it told me to put CD1 back in) with a libgl related error.  I apologize that I didn't capture the exact error, I'll run through the whole thing again later today and try to get it.

However, just to avoid needlessly banging my head against the wall, I'm curious whether there are known tricks to get it installed under Arch, or Linux in general.  I've had the game forever, but haven't previously tried to install it on any Linux system.

I'm running Arch64.

Again, I'll post later with the exact error, but any ideas in the meantime would be appreciated.  I did search the forums here, but the issues I see people posting about seem to be post-install issues with sound and etc.

One specific question -- it asks early in the process about whether I want it to create symlinks to a directory in my path, then asks what directory that should be.  What should my answers be, and will answering them wrong screw anything up?  I think I guessed and chose "yes" and whatever the default directory was.

Thanks!

Do you have lib32-libgl installed (or lib32-nvidia-utils, or whatever is for your graphics card)? UT2004 is 32 bit right?

Re: UT2004 -- Any particular trick to install?

Since I havn't "installed" the game for several years (i have a tar-ball that I throw around, much easier) I'm not really sure, but I always run into a libGL problem, or something, everytime I reinstall my OS or just trying out another distro.
IIRC I had to install "libstdc++5" to get the show on the road. It could atleast be worth a try..

There's lots of different versions of both the CD and DVD versions of UT2004. So you'll have to be a lot more specific - like, describe the case that contains the disks.

Re: UT2004 -- Any particular trick to install?

The initial install of ut2004 on a fresh installed Arch 2009.2 went fine for me, but you have to add /usr/local/bin to your path.

when I applied the ut2004-3369 patch, ut2004 would not run because the "libstdc++5" was missing.

It did not help with a symlink to a newer version (libstdc++6 renamed libstdc++5 ) as ut2004 recognize the difference.

However the "libstdc++5" is included in the doom3-demo, so I downloaded it and copied the "libstdc++5" to /usr/lib

Now it runs fine.

By the way I have the doom3 game too, but it uses a libstdc++6".
