Afer install the gnome,when I startx,the system crash(solved)

Sorry for my poor English.
I am installing the archlinux.I just do exactly what the "beginners' guide" wiki let me do.But when do the "startx" step,the system crash.I don't know why.The xorg.conf file is here:

You can run X without xorg.conf as you are using an Intel card. Just give it a try.

Besides, could you please describe how it crashed? blank screen, freeze, or some error outputs? And paste your ~/.xinitrc please

Hi.

Beside leeyee's tipps, you could also try the following:
Delete your xorg.conf, start hal (with "/etc/rc.d/hal start") and then try startx again.

There is a small white square which pinting "jzh@jzh$" on my screen left-top and the screen is freeze.No error outputs.
My .xinitrc  is here:

# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)

# exec gnome-session
# exec startkde
# exec startxfce4
# ...or the Window Manager of your choice
exec xterm

Aehm, if I understand that right, than your X is running correctly

put a # infront of exec xterm and add a line with
exec yourDisplayManagerStarter

If you installed gnome/kde/xfce4, you could also uncomment the gnome/kde/or xfce - line above.

Oh, thats good.

If you installed gnome/kde/xfce4, you could also uncomment the gnome/kde/or xfce - line above.

I forgot the header (that says you're using gnome...

Maybe you can mark your thread as solved? (Just edit the header, I think)
