Considering an Asus UL80vt or ag

Has anyone used Arch on one of these? I may end up using Windows for the increased battery life (the only portable I've used Linux on is my Eee PC, and that's because Windows would barely run on it), but I'd like to know how it will run Arch. Can you utilise the switchable graphics on the UL80vt in Arch? Thanks.

Re: Considering an Asus UL80vt or ag

My friend bought this notebook a week ago, installed ubuntu and there are some problems with it.
Something is wrong with wireless, it keeps disconnecting every 3-4 minutes. Maybe because it has quite new wifi card, it can be not supported yet.
There is no support for hybrid graphics on linux yet.
And battery in linux stays up for about 3 - 4 hours, so it's almost half of time you can get on windows.

Is it a good machine though? Now that Windows 7 is out, Windows isn't such a terrible option. I certainly still prefer Linux, but it seems like it's not a great choice for laptops yet.

Hm, from reading reviews, I'm actually tempted by the ul30 models. Just not sure which to go with.

There are two threads in the ASUS forum that request a switchable graphic option in the BIOS :

There is a solution to switch off the nvidia card in the UL30Vt models, which by the looks of the DSDT tables, will also work for the UL50Vt and UL80Vt models with nvidia card.
