offline repositories

I am curious... once I've copied the online repositories (core, extra and community) to a local hard drive, how can I set them up in pacman to function like the online repositories?  I'd like to do this so I can generate a complete setup of arch in whatever way I'd like (for the most part) before connecting to the net.  I have done this in one form or another with PCLinuxOS and Unity Linux and it has worked out in my favor in MANY situations.  But I see nothing on the wiki or forums about this kind of approach to things.  Can anyone shed some light on this subject?  is it even possible?  it has been with synaptic (pclos) and smart (unity)... but I am lost on how to do this with pacman...

Re: offline repositories

Search the wiki for setting up a local repo.  Then use that to set it up a local mirror of [core], [extra],...  etc and put that at the top of your mirrorlist.
