kde applications running as root has bad font

Hi there,
I noticed this on KDM settings. The font quality is so bad. You can see that by comparing it against the background appliactions which is running as logged in user ones. Same is true for any applications run as root.

Could any one help me out with this?

Font settings are independent per user. Your root account doesn't have anti-aliasing enabled.

Re: kde applications running as root has bad font

Aniti aliasing settings was System Settings for both root and my user. Now I Have changed it ENABLED for root and now fonts are correct.

One doubt what does system settings mean? Where is it stored ? I changed it from kde system settings -> appearance module.

More generally - don't run KDE as root. There is no valid reason for doing so.

In kde system settings apps like login manage settings are run as root only. Kdm also behaves the same.

KDE system settings normally asks for your root password when you click on an option which requires root privileges.  I have no idea what you mean by "kdm behaves the same".  I have never logged on as root via kdm and everything works fine.  KDE also allows you to edit the menus to launch an application as another user, if that is what you want to do.

Re: kde applications running as root has bad font

I meant to say that I never login as root in KDE. Only my normal user. For apps which require root privilages the font looks bad as they are running as root. For KDM also the fonts are bad.

After enabling anti aliasing for root user by running system settings as root and enabling it from appearance -> fonts. This issue seems to be gone.

Re: kde applications running as root has bad font

Run kdesu systemsettings and enable antialiasing as you do for normal user
Or create proper .fonts.conf in root folder.

Re: kde applications running as root has bad font

But even with anti aliasing set for root user KDM still has bad fonts. Wondering where it reads the font conf?
