Bus error in starting Xorg

I've been trying to get Xorg to work, but I've been having some issues.

I worked out all the warnings indicated in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log but the main issue seems to be in line 112 to 115,

Bus error at address 0xb73c88c0

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 7 (Bus error). Server aborting

But I don't really know how to fix it, and I can't find any documentation of this error.
The same thing happens with my xorg.conf and with running without an xorg.conf

I'm running it on an Acer Aspire One, which has Intel 945GME integrated graphics

Here's the /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Re: Bus error in starting Xorg

Try a more recent version. 1.7.3-1 is current, not the version you're using.

Re: Bus error in starting Xorg

do some mirrors update faster than others?  the latest version that I can find in repo is 1.7.2-2 (which also doesn't work)

Yes, I had to change my mirror as updates were slow to appear. You can check for a reliable mirror from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mir … ror_status

Re: Bus error in starting Xorg

fabertawe, awesome, thanks!

I updated to the latest xorg-server, but still the same problem... does anyone know where I could find documentation on this signal 7 and what it means?

Re: Bus error in starting Xorg

Bus errors almost always means some kind of program bug.  They're rare because they result from unaligned memory accesses and similar things rather than accessing memory out of bounds.  Can you run "gdb Xorg" and post the result of a backtrace?  Actually, "valgrind Xorg" might be nice too, but it may produce tonnes of output.

Re: Bus error in starting Xorg

I am getting the same kind of error when I am loading the glx driver.  I just installed everything brand new today.  My card is an intel 82945G/GZ.  I suspect something has gone wrong.  Is there an easy way to try installing the previous version of Xorg or something?
