Hello to all,
I needed to setup an OS to an old computer; a Celeron 1,7 Ghz with 256 MB. I have setup several Linux versions before, but I am not a very knowledable Linux person.
After some research, I found out that Arch would be the best choice for me. Even though I had read the setup page on the site, and went thorough every step of install, it just did not install. I went through this 2 more times, before switching to Fedora Core 4.
Are there any plans for automated setups for Arch for semi-knowledgeable people like me?
Regards,

No I don't think so, there is a beginners guide however.

What exactly do you mean with "just did not install"? What happened?
I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

I think the best thing to do is to try and get help about the problem you are having during installation. After I started using Arch Linux, I can't imagine using anything else on an older computer. Arch is so fast!
If you would like an easier installation process and more hardware auto-detection, consider trying the Chakra Project. (I have not tried it myself) http://chakra-project.org/

I think Crunchbang Linux would fit your needs better. It works out-of-the-openbox, unlike Arch. (and I don't think your computer will run Chakra)

There is also Puppy Linux and D**n Small Linux.

After the installation, it rebooted. A lot of text lines appeared on the screen like [0f338s0] with a different number/character combination every line on the screen and the computer just stopped. I am sorry, I am not bringing any valuable information to you.
I could not connect to the internet while working on this computer, maybe http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide would have helped.
Thank you all for showing me the other lightweight distributions. Hopefully one day either I will increase my Linux knowledge enough to install Arch without a problem or Arch will decrease its Linux knowledge expectation of its users by making a automatic installation mode.
Thanks for your time,
