Since there is no id3-editor that doesn't suck (id3 never wrote any tags for me,
and id3ed just... sucks), here's id3shit.

mutagen is nice. it's written in python. you may want to look into how it handles all these encoding and stuff.

My internet connection is all fucked up i can't really reach your script

to actually make id3shit suck less, you should implement regex-editing on existing tags.

in fact, this would make id3shit awesome

or somehow setting tags from file names using regex. but don't know exactly you could implement that

look at audiotag (in AUR), it supports "setting tags from file names using regex", also in perl.
