Hi folks!
Because of a very nasty problem which I'm confronted with right now
(cf. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=87728) and because
I couldn't find any workaround until now I have decided to go back
to the kernel 2.6.31. Where can I download a precompiled kernel version 2.6.31?

I have the exact same card, but I don't have that problem. Try making a lite xorg.conf (read the nvidia wiki page).

To downgrade:
sudo wget http://arm.konnichi.com/core/os/i686/ke … pkg.tar.gz
and installed with pacman -U kernel26-2.6.31.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

I have tested a few different xorg.conf and got in each case exactly the same problem!
Now I have found out that this problem has actually nothing to do with xorg or nvidia driver!
I got the same freezing effect directly in console (no X server was running)!
Very strange!!
Do you have any idea how I can trace it down?
Regards
Nik

Sounds like flaky memory to me. Or overheating. Have you cleaned your case lately? And try running a memtest.

It is a brand new PC (with core i7 860 and 8 GB memory).
I will do a memory test but I don't think that there is a problem with memory!
It has worked very fine with kernel 2.6.31.

Hi jdarnold!
Thank you very much for kernel package!
Do you have also the kernel-header 2.6.31 package?
It would be very nice if you could make it accessible:-)

http://schlunix.org/archlinux/ should have it.
if you don't plan to compile own kernel modules, you may ignore the headers/force install kernel, as far as I understood it.
