Some graphical issues...

1. I cannot get desktop composition to work

2. I only get text-mode with plymouth (plymouth-git from AUR)



Some additional info:
- I am using AMD ATI RadeonHD 4570
- I am running kernel 2.6.32 (form [testing]), I have to use that kernel to get wireless
- I followed this wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Plymouth
- I do not have a xorg.conf (it's empty)
- Also check post #11

Don't bump your thread, supply some more information, e.g. is KMS enabled, what is not working with compositing, how do you start it, error logs etc

I am using kernel 2.6.32 from [testing] which means that KMS is enabled by default. I have tried enabled desktop effects with KWin in KDEmod (from [kdemod-core]). When i enable the desktop effects my screen flash, KDE crash and brings me to login. I have to login to KDEmod failsafe to turn effects off again to use normal KDEmod. I don't know where to find error logs...

Plymouth falls back to text mode without kernel mode setting, this is why I asked about KMS. Also KMS for ATI will be disabled by default in the new kernel because its still too buggy. I take it that you checked KMS not only to be enabled, but also working. No experience with Ati cards here, don't know what you could try.

For compositing, you may run compiz-check scripts (in aur) and start compiz from command-line to see error messages.

There is ample moaning in this forum about ATI cards and KMS under the 2.6.32 kernel. I suggest you start off with the wiki entry for ATI. If you can get KMS to work then plymouth should be just around the corner smile

KMS is enabled on the kernel I am running, but it will most likely by disabled when i update. I just have to wait for my mirror repo to sync...

I got the updates now. KMS is now disabled, and there is no change when it comes to desktop compositing. I am checking the ATI Wiki now...

Hm, as soon as I booted the new kernel compositing worked again! Obviously not by default, I had to go into systemsettings...

Let us know how you get on.
