Vaio VGN-BZ12XN

Hi all,

Bought this laptop a few days ago and I'm having some issues with it. Let me start with the laptop specs:

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz
RAM: 3GB
Video: Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Hard disk: 250GB 5400RPM SATA - FUJITSU MHY2250B
Chipset: ICH9M
DVD R/W: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S
Ethernet: Intel 82567LM Gigabit
Wireless: Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN
PCMCIA: Type II PCMCIA slot: Ricoh RL5c476 II
Card readers: Ricoh R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro
Camera: Built-in webcam
Other I/O: 3x USB, 1x Firewire, 1x iLink, fingerprint reader
Modem: Built-in

1. Processor

Load acpi_cpufreq and enable cpufreq in your rc.conf to have CPU frequency scaling support.

2. Video

Currently using the 2.6.27.4-1 kernel, newer versions do not seem to work. Using the xf86-video-intel video drivers.

3. Ethernet and wireless

Do not work with the installer's kernel, but do work with a 2.6.27.x-x kernel out of the box.

4. PCMCIA

Not tested yet.

5. Camera

Not tested yet.

6. Modem

Not tested yet.

7. Fingerprint reader

Not tested yet.

What is not working:

- Setting the brightness of the lcd panel (not through gnome, neither using the Fn keys), a major issue for me
- The whole laptop crashes randomly when starting the X server, this happens both when the laptop is on AC or battery power, will try a different driver to see if that helps

I have the VGN-BZ11XN & kernel 2.6.31

I've had no video problems, but didn't bother to adjust the brightness of the display

couldn't get the internal mic to work (using an external one)
webcam works with skype
noisy fan fixed with fansilencer (sonypi)

currently trying to get the optiarc CD/DVD drive to work (doesn't work out of the box, perhaps with nero linux)

didn't test: fingerprintreader, magicgate, pcmcia
