Flashplugin 10.0.42.34 for some reason doesn't work

Hey guys,

I have this problem with flashplugin for weeks and it drives me crazy. For some reason the flash plugin doesn't work and I am being redirected to the adobe repository. The same happens with both opera and firefox. The problem is, that I am up to date. The output of pacman -Qs flash is

local/flashplugin 10.0.42.34-1
    Adobe Flash Player
local/kdemod-kdeedu-kwordquiz 4.3.4-1 (kdemod-complete kdemod-kdeedu kdemod-uninstall)
KWordQuiz is a general purpose flash card program
local/libflashsupport 9.0.21.78-5
Macromedia flash plugin support lib (OSS SSL)

Do you know what is the problem? It started after a system upgrade. I can't find anything in the web.

When this comes up, it's usually a problem with the permissions on mozilla's plug-in directory. Post the output of:

ls -al /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

Where is the corrsponding path for the Opera. I tried in /usr/lib/opera/plugins and I didn't find anything. Should I manually copy libflashplayer.so there as well?

No, manually changing things in the filesystem is a terrible idea. Given enough time you forget what you did and you may have problems later.

The only thing different I notice there is that libflashplayer.so is owned by you and not by root, did you change or install it manually?

You can also try to create a new user and check if flash works, if it works it is something related with the settings saved for your user.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think I manually tried to install it with the tar.gz that adobe provides. Anyways, I ll try it with a different user and see what's happening.

Ok, the same happens even with a different user. I created a new user account without adding it in any groups.

Only think I can say is remove that file and install flashplugin with pacman and try again, if that doesn't work then I don't have a clue.

You also may want to check the permissions on the parent folder. /usr/lib/mozilla and /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins should both be drwxr-xr-x or 755. Also, what ROOKIE said may be important. You shouldn't be the owner of libflashplayer.so if installing from the repos.

Re: Flashplugin 10.0.42.34 for some reason doesn't work

Well I checked all of them and they are as the other folder. I mean, what should it normally be?

As for what ROOKIE said, well I checked that also but anyways I had added that file manually so I just removed that. It doesn't play any role.

Re: Flashplugin 10.0.42.34 for some reason doesn't work

Is there any hope if I at least load the older packages?
