amarok 1.2.0 is out
it is compiled against libvisual 0.2.0
however it has some trouble using it :-(
amarok: [SocketServer] Starting visualization..
amarok: [SocketServer] Connection requested: 29
amarok: [SocketServer] Registration pid: 17382
amarok: [SocketServer] false
libvisual WARNING: /opt/kde/bin/amarok_libvisual: visual_plugin_get_list(): Failed to add the /usr/lib/libvisual/transform directory to the plugin registry
amarok: [SocketServer] recv() error, closing socket: 29
amarok: [SocketServer] Stopping visualization
anyone has an idea, what is wrong?
the dir "/usr/lib/libvisual/transform" is not part of libvisual or libvisual-plugins
EDIT:
also, i'm thinking about splitting amarok into:
amarok-base [depends=(amarok-engine)]
amarok-engine-arts [provides=(amarok-engine)]
amarok-engine-gst
amarok-engine-xine
...
what do you think on this subject?

hi,
I'd definitly vote for splitting amarok into single packages if for example installing amarok-gst-plugins comes with all necessary packages to play mp3/ogg/mpc ( something like that ... )
: )

we can make amarok-engine-gst depend on lots of gst-plugins that are needed to support lots of formats ... someone needs to make me a list, what plugins all of us use for playing music using gstreamer backend --- no problem!

Great new amaroK icon "Blue Wolf", made by KDE artist Da-Flow.
I upgraded to the 1.2 version of amarok and the blue wolf icon is gone. I am sure I saw it before in one of the betas I had running but now it's just that ugly plain old speaker icon.. :?
is it just me or does anyone else has this problem?
any ideas on how to fix it? maybe just change an icon somewhere?

it's in the OSD shown ... when a cover image is missing, the wolf is shown

Ol' speaker? Wolf sits on my panel and tray without any glitch. Well, in OSD as well, as dp said. You could probably change the icon manually, as long as it's a normal desktop icon, but if you have a speaker icon in tray, something's really wicked :-)

I don't see the wolf either... but I use the noia icon theme and I think it comes with an amarok icon replacement.

in that OSD I only get that speaker icon : ) and in the tray only is the speaker. I attached a screenshot just to prove I am not crazy

Same here, but you ARE using a different Icon Theme (named Noia) than the default one (same as me).

hmm.. well I do use nuvola as icon theme. do you think changing the icon theme to noia will fix that? will test this in a minute..
EDIT: just installed the noia theme and the blue wolf icon is there.. well that is f-ed up..
I'd file a bug report for that if I knew how oh well back to nuvola.. they just look nicer
ps. thank you everyone that wasted their time on my problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no.. I've been lied my entire life...
Well.. it seems I use Nuvola... but didn't know it
(I gave it a different name)
Edit: noia might miss an Amarok icon, and KDE might show the default (Crystal) icon for amarok in that case

what do you mean "lied my entire life"??
anyway, I figured it out.. nuvola has it's own amarok icon and that happens to be that speaker icon. Now I copied out of the crystal icons folder all the amarok icons over to my nuvola folder.. However, the icon you see in the OSD changed into the blue wolf, the little icon for the tray didn't change which is strange b/c I don't see where else the nuvola set takes it's amarok icon from.

Evil icon-stealers on the move again. They abducted my cuddly wolf from the newest amarok release :-(

I don't know who maintains the amarok package, but could that person please enable mysql in amarok as default?
I use it, since it speeds up amarok when you are dealing with 10k songs...
To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.

this person will have a look at it and if ok, enable it
EDIT: this person is now compiling it
