Creative Zen V Plus and libmtp

First off, for some reason whenever I plug my creative zen in, my laptop assumes this is some sort of photo device.  In additino to that, Amarok won't recognize it.

When I did mtp-detect:

Listing raw device(s)
   Found 1 device(s):
   Creative: ZEN V Plus (041e:4152) @ bus 0, dev 15
Attempting to connect device(s)
usb_claim_interface(): Device or resource busy
LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to initialize device
Unable to open raw device 0
OK.

Should I be concerned about the LIBMTP PANICE?

If gnome/kde/whatever is automatically mounting it, you need to unmount it before you try to connect through amarok

Is the libmtp panic something to draw concern?

No, it's just saying that it can't connect and the line above says that it's busy - i.e. already mounted and in use by something else.

make sure it's unmounted and run mtp-detect again and you should see it's alright

Re: Creative Zen V Plus and libmtp

I've been searching around, what applications can I use besides Amarok?  More specifically, what in gnome can allow me to sync with this mp3 player.

Try gnomad2. It's in the AUR, and it work for a Zen with me.

Re: Creative Zen V Plus and libmtp

I tried Gnomad2 from AUR.  It didn't work.  Fortunately I was finally, through tinkering, able to get it to work with Banshee.

Gnomad2 works perfectly for me (I have KDE but a few GNOME apps as well). Although interface isn't very pretty it is not its function so I can live with that. It just works.

Re: Creative Zen V Plus and libmtp

Gnomad2 works for me when I unmount the zen first.
Other options: rhythmbox (no video transfer), mtpfs (just drop your files in the music/video folders)

However, I have still not found a linux app that transfers album art. Does Banshee copy the album covers? Or does anyone know about another tool? I read amarok1 schould be capable of this, but I can not get it to recognize the zen.

Re: Creative Zen V Plus and libmtp

Hello, i've been playing with the Creative Zen.  Banshee is a very big program if all you want is file copy to the Zen. Gnomad is AUR: not every system is setup to use that. PLUS i need something simple that even the kids can use it. They have videos from youtube or the camera and want them converted to a format ZEN can use. FFMEP is quite difficult with so many options. So i made my own little tool. It uses python, pygtk and libmtp. Feel free to adapt my program to your needs. Not shure where to put it hence i've stored it temporarely here:  http://home.online.nl/henk.speksnijder/ … index.html

Re: Creative Zen V Plus and libmtp

wait, does that mean that this player cannot be connected as a generic USB storage device?

I am using Creative Zen Nano Plus now and I see connecting it as a generic flash drive as a huge advantage, because then it doesn't need any specific OS or custom programs, I just mount it and work with the files

may the Source be with you

Amarok1 can definitely do this and I think it's probably got the best interface for copying tracks to the player - I only keep amarok1 installed purely for transferring tracks to my player!

My Vision:M can partition part of the harddrive that will mount as a storage device, but that's only for files. Audio and Video is transferred only through MTP which is a pain in the wotsits. I'm not sure about all creative players, but I think the majority are MTP.

It's the same with Zen V/Zen V Plus. I hope new Creative player won't have this space limit.
