Why would one want to use a shell outside of bash? Could someone that's switched shells give me some information on why they decided to switch and what they prefer about their new shell over bash?

Zsh is an interactive shell so it has more features for just using the terminal.
The Bourne Again SHell IS bash.
The Bourne shell (sh) was the original shell on unix.
ash/dash etc are 'lighter' than bash and support all of sh's features, but not all of bash's.

For shame, that article doesn't mention the friendly interactive shell (fish), which is worth playing with, and could easily replace bash for interactive use.
The reason I use bash over another shell is apathy. Bash is installed, and I don't do more than the occasional very simple shell script, so it works for me.

Quickly ditched bash for zsh for the better completion, globbing, array handling, line editing and customizability.

Right. My default shell is fish. I like it because of its interactive features and syntax simplicity. When I need a complex script that cannot be obtained with my shell of choice I use ruby.
