Acer Aspire Revo 3610

Just wondering if anyone has picked one of these up, whats the performance like and how quiet are they,
I'll be switching all the heavy lifting to a server and just need something for general browsing, videos etc
It'll be the 2gb ram, 160gb hard drive model.

Cheers

Re: Acer Aspire Revo 3610

I got one of these for my home theatre box. It is so damn quiet I can't notice a thing. I haven't hit any performance bottlenecks besides 1080p blu-ray decoding. (I'm running Windows 7 on it, so no mplayer =[.) I end up using CoreAVC for decoding h264.

Re: Acer Aspire Revo 3610

The specs for this look similar to my media center netPC, the Asrock ION 330.  I am actually running Ubuntu on it because I had issues from the WinXP installation, and since Ubuntu got me out of them, I decided to stick with Ubuntu.

You will need "vdpau" in the mplayer support that will offload the decoding to the GPU.  1080p works flawlessly on my 40" LCD TV.  Only thing right now is you can't watch full screen flash videos.  The GPU optimizations in the Adobe player 10.1 beta, are only for Windows.  However, they will be in the final release for Linux as well.

Acer Aspire Revo AR1600 (Archlinux) - Sits next to the gaming box, for chat and browsing while I play games
Macbook Pro (OS X 10.6) - Main "work"station
Dell XPS 410 (Windows XP Media Center/Win 7 Dual boot) - Gaming box
Lenovo S10 (Jolicloud/testing)
