Boot into root console.

Perform...startx...

After several minutes, error display..

   /usr/X11R6/bin/startx    line131  4897 Bus Error  xauth -q <<EOF
   add $displayname.  $mcookie
    EOF

Using Xwindow ssystem Version 6.8.   XIO  Ftal IO error 104

The xorg.conf file is a copy of the same file from another bootable HDD in my computer which starts x and kde correctly

db-4.2.52.2-2.pkg.tar.gz is installed.  Kernel is 2.6.10-3..  KdElibs-5 version and heimdal installed.

Please advise corrective procedure.

Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

Re: X does not start

Have you tried running xorgcfg or xorgconfigure ?

You might have to try a slightly different approach to a previous distribution due to slight difference in directory structure and the likes.  Just give xorg a reconfigure and then when a basic xserver is running you can tune it using your previous xorg.conf file for things like mouse scrolling or nvidia twinview and the likes.

Re: X does not start

Ran xorgconfig two times before trying the transfer of /etc/X11/xorg.conf from a properly booting hdd.

Re: X does not start

The error began showing up right after installing db2.4.52.2-2.pkg.tar.gz which action is supposed to solve the X and KDE start problems.

See my...kio_http post in Desktop Environments which permitted the KDE to perform correctly on the other HDD from which xorg.conf was obtained

This HDD did not respond in the same fashion and it is obtained from the same arch 0.7CD install with all elements identical..
