Fglrx

I'm going to install Arch i686, but I want to use the Catalyst drivers. I have these versions of xorg stuff:

xorg-server-1.6.3-4-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-input-evdev-2.2.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-input-keyboard-1.3.2-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz
xf86-input-mouse-1.4.0-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz

Anybody else had to do this? Am I doing it wrong?

The reason I want to do this is so I can play games.

Re: Fglrx

What exactly are you asking? it's correct that you currently need the old 1.6 xorg-server and friends to install the catalyst driver package from the AUR smile

Re: Fglrx

Head on over to the catalyst bar and gril
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57084

What card do you have. I may be able to tell you some more stuff you may need to do.

I have all of these packages. So I can upload them if you need any. Also, checkout the last 10 pages or so of that thread or get your google hacking on site:http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57084 I think other people have uploaded packages too.

That has to be some Arch repos that have the old packages.... or there should be. I keep a 10GB partition just for packages and then made a system link form /var/cache/pacman/pkg. This way I can reinstall even if I am not online.

ls -s /mnt/pkg /var/cache/pacman/pkg

Re: Fglrx

I want good 3D stuff for my ATI Radeon 4890 HD.

I'm just concerned if I have all the packages or too many or too little or stuff like that.

I would use the free driver for now. It should give you somewhat working 3d. And then switch to catalyst when it starts supporting xorg-server 1.7 and friends
(you probably have to wait for the next ubuntu release for that....)

You guys are lame.... This isn't an OpenBSD forum we help people here.
Especially because the problem he is having is do to a poorly set up Arch-Repository system not a lack of knowledge on the user end.

Dude no problem. 3D works vary well with the Catalyst. Don't listen to these guys. Also, you have a new card R700 3D with the Open Source driver dose NOT work for the R600-R700 cards yet. The Open Source driver will have 3D for R700 when Kernel 2.6.33 comes out.

If you want to use x86_64 and if you ask me you should. Archlinux is set up for x86_64 vary well. I have never had any problems. ....

Anyway, If you want to use x86_64 I can upload all my packages to rapidshare for you. Otherwise, ask on that other thread "Catalyst bar & grill" someone there will upload any packages you need. I think someone even has a Repo set up that you can just add to your repo list.

You will need like the whole set of packages I have listed above because they are all dependent on each-other. Also a few more. i.e. consolekit  eggdbus  polkit . . . I will upload them too for you.

Re: Fglrx

I have an R700? How does that work?

I just need the package list of stuff I need and versions so I can find them. I know where to get x86_64 versions of packages.

Re: Fglrx

I guess the R500 R600 R700 bla bla is like the chip-set labeling that matters when it comes to finding out what driver you need. i.e. you have a R700 so Open Source support is not all that good for your card yet

I was wrong too. I guess the packgaes in the repos for the OpenSource ATI driver DO have all you need for 3D with the new R600-R700 cards. KMS is broken and should be fixed by 2.6.33. However, 3D is still not all that fantastic yet.

I guess these are the packages you need

xorg-apps-7.5-1.1

xorg-fonts-alias-1.0.1-2

Re: Fglrx

Just use pacman to install the ones you need?

First, simply go thru with installing Xorg and Catalyst according to the respective ArchWiki articles. You should be able to attain a working setup following them.

I'm using the open-source xf86-video-ati drivers myself with an HD4850. Works okay also, and 3D is working partially. So if you really need decent 3D support, go for the Catalysts. When kernel 2.6.33 gets here and perhaps an update to the drivers, the open source side will start getting what you want.

Dude, you should probably learn a bit more about how pacman, package management, and Arch in general work. This isn't Windows anymore, most (if not all) software is from the repos not from some random person's zip-file pirated upload.

Re: Fglrx

pacman -S xorg-apps-7.5-1.1?

Does that even work?
The reason I ask is because I'm planning on reinstalling and I want to make a big list of crap on my external HDD and install the correct versions first.

Yep I am a dumb ass. The first repo has all the packages you need.

Try this first

OR
http://ftp.icm.edu.pl/pub/Linux/sunsite … archlinux/
