[SOLVED] Installed Splashy, no more login daemon and wrong X conf

Solution: When installing the pkg AUR/splashy i was forced to remove the pkg initscripts in favour of initscript-mod. This pkg remove and reset my init files like /etc/rc.conf and /etc/init and that's why all those problems.
To correct that situation boot with ArchLive cd, mount your root partition then reinstall the correct initscripts pkg by

pacman -r /mounted-root -S initscripts

where /mounted-root is the mountpoint of your Arch root. Then you need to edit your rc.conf and inittab files again to configure your system (i.e. add kdm in the daemon list). Hope it helps

--------------------------------------------------------

Hi everybody, i hope i'm writing in the right place.

The Facts: installed splashy following the wiki ( AUR/splashy + AUR/splashy-themes) then configured
- grub menu.lst adding the vga mode_number found via hwinfo --framebuffer,
- rc.conf,
- mkinitcpio.conf and then mkinicpio -p kernel26.

The Symptons:
- No splashy at boot smile
- no login manager (i use kdm  set in etc/inittab)
- english localization in my keyboard (and it should'nt be)
- after starting kdm manually (logging as root and launching /etc/rc.d/kdm start) no way to use keyboard or mouse.

What i tried:
- added ## in menu.lst before the line 'quiet splash'
- commented 'SPLASH=' line in rc.conf
- removed splashy from hooks and ran again mkinitcpio - kernel 26
- removed via pacman splashy packages.

But nothing improved, same situation.

Suggestions? Thank you

Re: [SOLVED] Installed Splashy, no more login daemon and wrong X conf

UPDATE: I discovered my rc.conf file was 'reset' to the default one (can't see how or why) but that's why my locale was wrong and kdm didn't started at booting. So the problem remained that my mouse and keyboard didn't work in X at all. I tried to restore the original sysvinit and initscripts that splashy replaced, then ran again mkinitcpio. At reboot i couldn't reach tty and ramfs asked me the runlevel... hmm

i'm going to reinstall arch as i have no other ideas.
