The "butterfly thingy" indicates the window is floating.  To get rid of it, hit mod + space to unfloat the window (I think. It may be mod + ctrl, I haven't used awesome for a while).  Of course, since you probably want it floated, either ignore it, or move the image from the awesome theme folder/rename it.

Thanks very much lswest!

Started using tmux, finished my vim colourscheme and, to my amazement, found a better font than Inconsolata (at least for the Eee)...

What font? Also I noticed this cool colorscheme on your photostream. Could you post this please?

Nice wall: do you have a link?

It is generated by konify. See http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=70887

I don't remember who made it or where I found it, except that it was somewhere on deviantart.  Judging by the konify screenshots, the creator very well could have used konify as their base template and expanded from there.

In any case, this is the exact version of the wallpaper that I'm using.. 1680x1050 and tinted to match my color scheme:

I think he intends for his setup to look like Crunchbang, which is an openbox derivative of Ubuntu (crunch-eee is crunchbang for eeePCs, if you've heard of that before).
