Hi there,
is there a service available for arch, that resolves mirrors dynamically?
What I mean is a dns service, that e.g. resolves getMeAMirror.com to the next arch mirror available depending on my origin and depending on current mirror load.
There is something available for ubuntu: archive.ubuntu.com resolves to a currently available mirror. de.archive.ubuntu.com resolves to a currently available mirror in Germany.
Maybe this could be interesting for Arch Linux as well. We could reach a better load balancing of mirrors and we could improve general mirror availability. A further benefit could be on user side: One could just add getMeAMirror.com as mirror in pacman.conf. No further configuration of mirrors would be needed.
If there is no such service, maybe we can discuss whether there is the need for such a project and how it can be done. Otherwise point me to this service :-)
Suggestions, Laughter?

It's not exactly what you want, but have you tried powerpill + reflector ?

Hi,
thanks for your quick reply. Reflector is in fact a solution. But this is not what I meant intentionally. For the solution I suggest reflector actually is a workaround.
