is there an tool available so that I can merge, split etc pdf files.

This http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=77388 might do the job. I think I have heard of other utilities that do similar things. A search may turn them up.

As a last-resort, you may be able to do this with 'convert' from the imagemagick package.
