Problem: Setting up p54pci like it should, locks up the computer around +- 30 tcp connections (guesswork based on torrent GUI's)
To set this up in arch you would:
* block the module prism54 from loading so p54pci can load
* install the right firmware for your kernel/hardware http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/p54
on kernel 2.6.32-ARCH this would mean adding 2.13.12.0.arm as isl3886pci in the firmware folder
This worked flawless in Opensuse 11.2 (Ubuntu ships with prism54 firmware, i don't know what they use)
It freezes in ARCH when torrent Gui's report around 30 connections
I am currently using firmware 2.7.0.0.arm renamed to isl3886pci (shouldn't even work, this is for old kernels)
dmesg =>
p54pci 0000:04:05.0: firmware: requesting isl3886pci
phy0: p54 detected a LM86 firmware
phy0: you are using an obsolete firmware. visit http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/p54 and grab one for "kernel >= 2.6.28"!
This is much more stable, but it still crashes occasionaly. and much more random. I can still make it crash by allowing alot of connections in a torrent app combined with high bandwidth saturation
