I am having a display issue with a java applet on this particular site:
http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php
If you look to the right of the search bar there is a brush icon. If you click that, a "handwriting input" screen comes up, where you basically write a character in the top box, and the applet tries to recognize it, and displays possible characters in the box below.
My issue is that the possible characters display only as little square boxes, rather than actually characters in the box below. What is very strange about this is that I had to reinstall Arch (long story), and when I used this applet in the last install it worked flawlessly. To my knowledge, the only java-relevant difference between each install was that on the second install (this one) I decided to try openjdk, but ending up removing it in favor of jre because of numerous issues (including the one I am having with jre and this site).
I am using the default install of Firefox (Shiretoko), with jre.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Update:
Simple installation of some fonts solved that problem. They must have downloaded as a dependency to something completely unrelated last time.
Now, however, all the Firefox toolbars are displaying text in some type of awful monospace font, and change the defaults in edit > preferences > content doesn't seem to help anything.
I installed the following fonts:
wqy-zenhei
ttf-arphic
wqy-bitmapfont
ttf-arphic-uming
ttf-fireflysung
in that specific order. I'm not sure which one of them hijacked my web browser....
Again, any help is appreciated.
