Same problem here...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Well, It seems like we are the only ones to have this problem (only arch people).

This must be because of this patch : mesa-7.1-link-shared.patch

I'll dig this tomorrow.

Bye !

Code is going to be very unstable these days.

Use the [core] repo packages instead.

Yeh' I'm just hanging with the stable packages, & letting the improvements roll in when they are deemed ready.

Certainly looking forward to the next kernel, & the next... wink

I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!

You were right this but now another bug shows up;

X sometimes consumes over 90% CPU if I move a window around or try to select more than a few icons in dolphin or try to scroll in huge files using kate.

It also uses a lot a CPU if I visit this site with any browser: http://www.intelec.uni-passau.de/ or http://www.youtube.com/user/Bierchen133 … 6VerKdcrOQ

can someone confirm this strange behaviour? even 33-rc3 didnt fix this...

Yeah I talked to the dev on IRC that patch is old and should be removed from the pkgbuild, doing so fives everything, well it also needs one other minor edit but w/e either way the patch should be removed.

I'm not sure I understand, does removing the arch patch solves the issue (or enhances it perhaps) ?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Maybe the repo should use mesa-full instead. It doesn't need the patch.

And if somebody wants the explanation why Quakelive is so slow: http://phoronix.com/forums/showpost.php … tcount=225

Removing the patch works!
I just removed the two lines:

patch -Np1 -i "${startdir}/mesa-7.1-link-shared.patch" || return 1

and

install -m755 libdricore.so "${pkgdir}/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/" || return 1

,and 3D comes back to my desktop!

You sir are a Bob among hens.

THIS IS AWESOME big_smile

mind you.. having to comment out some code is a pain in the ass...

hmmm.. might make a patch and a new pkgbuild..

EDIT:
Well it was worth it.
7.8 with no GLSL == QuakeLive running fast and tasty.

most everything is running faster than 7.7
Next... kernel 2.6.33 with all its new DRI code

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Can anyone upload kernel26-git to speedyshare or something like that, please? After few hours I have compiled my own kernel26 2.6.33-rc4 but it does not work and I got kernel panic.

If anyone gives me a right .config I can compile and provide it for you.
Preferably the arch standard config of 2.6.32 + further radeon configuration. Hdmi audio, would be nice :-)

I think kernel26-git from AUR is enough to launch 3d, can you try it?

Waa?

You don't need a .33 kernel to run 3d. Im using the old 2.6.32-1 kernel and I have 3D... What is it that you are trying to achieve?

insanemal, can you upload kernel26 2.6.32-1 to speedyshare then? The problem is that newest kernels from [core] are breaking my 3d totally. This is why I tried to compile 2.6.33 in my own but it is not working.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I have downgroaded to kernel26 2.6.32-1 as I was hoping it will works but unlucky - with drivers from [extra] I am getting error that there is no support for 1.4 OpenGL or whatever while lanuching Tibia whereas with mesa-git from nightly, I am getting following error:

[mazur@localhost ~]$ glxgears
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I have been trying out gentoo the past couple days and finally figured out overlays so I enabled mesa-9999 and installed the vanilla 2.6.33-r4 kernel

I compiled radeon as a module and set radeon.modeset=0 in grub (since the body firmware isn't built in anybody know how to do that? so early start will work?)

now in /etc/modules.d/radeon.conf I put "options radeon modeset=1"

also I had to grab the firmware from here since the kernel would crash/halt without it http://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/radeon_ucode/ I don't remember if I put it in the /usr/src/linux/firmware dir or in /lib/firmware I think it was the latter though

I guess it is required to have that firware now I don't think it was before.

I notice that glxgears fps is much lower with KMS but graphics proformace in openarena is pretty good ~40 fps 1366x786 or it will max out at lower res ..... bloom doesn't work fps-> 2 somethings in compiz are funky ie reflection breaks emerald but that might be gentoo specific

This is pretty much the same experience I had on arch with 2.6.32 and 2.6-git

On my machine, im running 2.6.32-1 that used to be in core. I am running all git stuff.. so glproto and what ever else are all built from git/mesa-full

I dont touch the core mesa files as they caused issues on my pc.. be it with or without KMS. I have a HD453026

All I did was follow the perry3D's first post for using GIT gear. The git kernel I tried for a bit was kernel26-git. The only thing I did was took the kernel26firmware-git package from the dependencies as the PKGBUILD is broken and returns an empty package. Plus the non git versions plus radeon-ucode package was all it really needed.

I use yaourt for alll my AUR needs. (well Yaourt + a powerpill enhanced pacman)
