Not that impressede, the old newsletter was better. Magazines I prefer to read in paper format.

Exactly why we release in both formats... didn't you notice the text only link? That's the same content in a newsletter-style format for those who dislike fancy graphics. tongue

Looks good to me.  My thanks go to you and to all the contributors for taking the time to put this together.

I am messing around with 'cope' right now.

Oh, and thanks for including text only as an option.

A small bug report tough: The pdf-version has no numbering on pages. sad

Yes, with page numbers it might look more professional, but as long as no page references another one by number it is OK not to have them. Personally, I am suspicious to page numbers since they tend to divert from the PDF reader page numbers.

I am a very new potential Arch user and must say the magazine does a good job of attracting new users.

TO ALL TRANSLATORS: If you are interested in translating for your particular language and have not contacted me within the last two weeks, please send me another email. A lot has happened since the last release of ALM and I'm sure people's emails from that time have by now gotten lost. Additionally, I know that several of the localized communities have been hosting their translations on their localized sites. If you need me to host the translations, please let me know. If you haven't specifically told me that you want the localized copy hosted here, I am assuming that you are hosting it on your community page. Thank you.

I saw that! You realize that there's both a text and pdf version available for the magazine right...

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, January 2010 - Discussion

yeah, i only believe in the pdf version though lol.
I'll probably convert the others to pdf as well, just haven't had time.
PDF is cross platform and works well with just about every book reader i've seen.

Magazine will forever mean pdf not html to me... but then again i think we had this discussion before wink

The text version is on the main website for those that want it that way, but I don' want to mess with two formats, I think I'll just keep the pdf versions around for now anyway.

Really great magazine, I enjoyed it. Good publicity for arch, it shows that arch is different, with all theses custom packages.

Hey Ghost.

If there are translations can they be hosted where the current magazine is located? OR at least a link on the page pointing to the other languages?

As I previously stated, if the specific community doesn't want to host it on their homepage, they should have a representative contact me.

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, January 2010 - Discussion

Thanks a lot for the apvlv tip! My only problem with it is the name, because I've difficulties remember it (epdfviewer or xpdf is quite logical, but this one?). I'm still not sure if it stands for "a pdf viewer like vim" or "a pdf viewer under linux like vim". No big deal though since it works great.

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, January 2010 - Discussion

Ghost,

We from the archlinux-br community would like to translate the magazine to pt-BR. I've sent an email to you through the forum mail system, but I didn't receive any response, so I'm asking here. How should we proceed to make the translation? Can we have the original source so we can generate pdf and html versions too?

Thanks in advance.
