Gnome terminal missing

I installed the gnome basic packages and gdm.  My problem is I have no terminal application in gnome.  How can I get back to the command line?  I need to use pacman to, among other things, install the terminal application.  Stumped!

Press ctrl-alt-F1 to change to the first virtual console, install gnome-terminal, press ctrl-alt-f7 to go back to X.
