nvidia slow

I have an nvidia Geforce F go5200 and am wondering why it could be so slow because I think with proprietery drivers I should be able to watch a youtube video or iplayer and play small games like freewires I have looked at the wiki but I do not know which options to use. Any known problems with this card or should I not expect to be able to play videos (I could on ubuntu and sabayon but I suppose that's because of older xorg and drivers). Any ideas also I am having problems with internet on arch here

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=88791

so if you know anything about that please help.

both issues are extremly anoying so can you please just at least post small suggestions apart from look at the nvidia wiki page because i have done that.

Re: nvidia slow

There are a number of nvidia drivers of various generations. I think the 5200 is fairly old, so you might try one of the older ones - see if that changes anything. A quick pacman -Ss shows

extra/nvidia 190.53-3 (the current version)
extra/nvidia-173xx 173.14.22-3
extra/nvidia-96xx 96.43.14-3

I use nvidia-173xx for most of my boxes.

Re: nvidia slow

I have an FX-5200 and the 173 driver works great. So: "pacman -S nvidia-173xx", then "nvidia-xconfig" and reboot.
