as the header says. How do I tell aria2 to open in rxvt instead of xterm?
can I use an export in my bash or do I have to edit the aria2.conf and if
so how do I go about doing that?

How do you invoke aria2? The aria2 package comes with aria2c which runs in whatever terminal you call it from.

You'll need to see flashgot's preferences then. I don't know know them and can't help you with that, sorry.

Try running 'TERM=rvxt firefox' and then downloading a file, if it works, add
export TERM=rvxt
to your .xinitrc

i should have been more specific. I don't use startx so xinitrc will not help.
I use kdm. Also, when I set the eport term option, many other little problems arise.
I would prefer a method that doesn't involve stting rxvt as term systemwide

Using the power of the mighty Google, I found you an answer.
The procedure is simple, use rxvt as your download manager and call aria2c as one of it's options. Follow the directions here and you should be set. Don't forgot to read the man pages.

Certainly, first I searched for flashgot xterm and saw this. Seeing nothing else of use, I searched for flashgot gnome-terminal and found the link I posted above.
