so I sort of have a job, i say sort of because its an off the books thing. but i've been dealing with a computer recycler a fair bit lately, to find my cheap tinker toys and little things to complete some of the bits and piece i have here, mostly bartering.
anyway, the guy has been doing it for a little over a year, so he's running a pretty new business. but he resells a lot of the machines that he has coming in that are still worth using, but he's getting too busy to do that, and he thought of me, how cool is that, I met the guy when i was looking for a bios to hotswap to revive a board. When he offered me the work, I threw out the idea of setting me up with a gigabit switch and something to use for a "deployement" server, told him i'll wipe and reload 30 systems a day myself if the work is there......he even threw in a table for a work bench, 4 port kvm and a spare LCD monitor, lol
but right now i have a dual 2.4ghz xeon server, with a pair of 36gb scsi's and 2 gb ram, but i have the option to switch for a dual athlon MP board........reason i'm asking, is the xeon is an HP server, and i hate the bios, i really do. the athlon MP's are on a tyan board, so as long as its got gigabit lan, the fact that it only has 2 pci-x slots isn't really crippling
any thoughts? I'm leaning toward keeping the xeon server since i'm pretty sure the xeon's have more memory bandwitch, which is ideal for what i'm using it for. but is it worth sacrificing some performance for something easier to configure is the real question

If your using this as a server does it really matter? You always want the best performance. Cause after it is setup I should serve its clients and would need little to no configuration afterwards. Set it and forget it.
