Ctrl +Alt + F7 problem

Hi all,
I have installed Arch yesterday and has a problem with X
I installed xfce4, xorg, xorg-xdm and config the /etc/inittab to run xdm at startup like which the wiki says. But anytime I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to change to tty1, then I can't switch to GUI again, pressing Ctrl+Alt+F7 doesn't have the Xfce appear again.
Anyone can give some reason ?
Thank you for reading and sorry for my enlish big_smile

Re: Ctrl +Alt + F7 problem

You sure it's on tty7?
If so, try `chvt 7`.

Also: you don't need to apologize for your English. wink

'chvt 7' likes Ctrl+Alt+F7, it draws a black full screen sad (but I can switch to tty1 again by Ctrl+Alt+F1) Also when I logout from xfce, xdm doesn't "appear" -  a black full screen sad
Thank you anyway. Other suggestion ?

Re: Ctrl +Alt + F7 problem

In my system X currently tends to mysteriously switch from tty7 (Ctrl+Alt+7) to tty8 (Ctrl+Alt+8) every now and then.

It is not quite clear why it does so. But in case it is not avalaible in tty7 (i.e. full black screen only) any more you may want to try tty8 instead.

Re: Ctrl +Alt + F7 problem

I have tried to switch to tty8, it doesn't work for me, same phenomenon.

Re: Ctrl +Alt + F7 problem

console login doesn't work here either. If I have to fix a b0rked system, I reboot and use the fallback image [where I use init 3] and then login from console.

Re: Ctrl +Alt + F7 problem

I have got the opposite problem. I cannot open a TTY 1-6 from my GUI. Ctrl-ALt-F1 to F6 brings up a black screen. And F7 takes me back to my GUI.
Sorry if I am screwing up the topic....but felt it was vaguely related.
