1. In step 6, its not a bad idea to uncomment multiple mirrors. If a pacman cannot retrieve a package, it can then try the next mirror.

2. In rc.conf, I would put hal after network. It should be started as early as possible.

Using the repos Wine is only available for i686, if you have x64 you need to install it from the AUR:

yeah, yaourt -S bin32-wine smile that's what I do. Didn't even know there was a wine package in the repos, since I only use x64.

How about some lines on how to set-up Openbox? It's been a while since I used it, but isn't there some easy GUI tools availiable?

obmenu > GUI for menu editing

obconf > GUI for changing themes, adding themes, changing options

obkey (in AUR) > GUI for shortcuts (haven't tried it though)
