kdm is not startting at all.
When I run startkde it says $DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to X server .

On running startx it revealed more info that startkde cannot start kdeinit4 because of error in loading libpng12.so.0 because no such file.

Downgrading packages at the moment

Seems downgrading saved the day.

But still plymouth is not starting its complainig on libpng12.so.0.
Also I am getting some udevd warning that its already started.

libpng requires ~100 packages to be rebuilt. There was a warning posted to the arch-dev-public mailing list stating very clearly that updating from [testing] wasn't recommended until people have a chance to rebuild their packages.

disable testing and do pacman -Suu. as @mikesd said, you should be subscribed if you use testing repo.
