GDM and GNOME problem

1. I have gnome 2.28 installed. There is no option as "Login Manager" under administration tab and no command as gdmsetup to change gdm settings. How do I install a theme which I downloaded in tar.gz format?

2. In the notification area in the gnome panel the colour behind the banshee icon is different than the rest of the theme. It sometimes happens with other program icons also. I would be grateful for any solutioon to this.

Re: GDM and GNOME problem

Question #1: you can insert the appropriate lines to /etc/gdm/custom.conf to configure gdm, e.g. autologin. And something to read.
You can install themes and customize them in System / Preferences / Appearance.

Sorry if I wasn't clear but I meant the gdm theme ( which includes a .desktop, .xml and .png files all zipped in tar.gz file).
Also after issuing

sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties

and trying to import the theme, it says that its not a valid theme.

There is a wiki page for Gnome 2.28 changes.
