Hi there! I've been thinking about changing from Ubuntu to Arch. But before i start installing, i would like to know few things:
- I have disk image named "archlinux-2009.08-core-x86_64". I think I have to install the core with this image and the rest of packages via internet. Can I get my Huawei E230 (has some differences than E220) working from terminal?
- How about nVidia cards in Arch? Are they hard to get working? I would like to get my tv-out working as it works now (composite). And of course 3D acceleration.
I will add questions as they appear in my mind

While I don't use tv out on my nVidia card, my experience has been very positive getting other features to work, like dual monitors. Installing the binary, closed, drivers worked like a charm for me.
As for your disk image question, I don't really know what you mean. Why not just download the ISO and try it?

Do nVidia drivers for Arch have include application called "nvidia x server settings"? If it does, i think i can get tv-out working with it.

Sorry for my bad english I have downloaded the image myself. The point is i have told that image does NOT have any graphical environment. I'm asking to be sure that my modem works from terminal, so i can install the x window system etc.
It would be nice to know before installing any files to hard disk, because i only have one computer.

Can I suggest using virtualbox? Install and try to configure internet within that.

The install disk is a live image... You can test network connectivity from the live prompt... ping something. then /arch/setup

You should have the same trouble getting your modem to work in Arch as in Ubuntu. If you had to install something you'll probably have to install it again (but in a different way, tell us and we'll help you) and if you didn't have to install anything you have chance of getting it to work out of the box. You should try the live cd and see if you get connection.
Anyway, I recommend you to choose the netinstall cd. That way you will download the latest version of the base group instead of installing the (probably outdated) versions in the core cd.

To get the modem to work. First type lsusb in a terminal and paste the output here and we see what we can do.
PS. When you have got the modem to work here is instructions on how to install arch with the modem: http://p1i-tips.blogspot.com/2010/01/as … linux.html
