xorg.conf - hal

Hi, I have been using arch for quite a long time. Some time ago, when I was installing gnome and x11 I had to generate the xorg.conf using hwd. Hwd is now only in AUR and it is completely useless. I am using HAL configuration now and I want to make some improvements to the graphics configuration like enabling UXA rendering and so on. This forbids me from doing so. I was wondering whether there's a way to write HAL's detected config into xorg.conf for me to edit or some other way. The way of trying every config is a bit uncomfortable for me, because almost every time there's anything wrong, all input devices are not being listened to so I need to perform a hard reset and it hurts my heart. needless to say the filesystem check I had to turn off because of this.

Thank you

EDIT: It is probably good idea to mention my hardware

Lenovo R400
C2D T6670 2,2GHz
intel integrated graphics 4500MHD
1280x800 display
2GB RAM
...

[sdoky@sdoky-r400 ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

Re: xorg.conf - hal

Did you try generating a xorg.conf like:

Xorg -configure
cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then make your changes to the file.

Also see this:

Re: xorg.conf - hal

Yes, I tried that and I don't know why X ignores my xorg.conf. Whatever I put in is being ignored, even obviously bad resolutions and color depths, vsyncs, hsyncs and so on... Is there any way HAL overrides my config?

Re: xorg.conf - hal

Have you tried temporarily removing hal from the daemons list? That way you could find out whether hal is overriding the xorg settings.

This is my signature. If you want to read it, first you need to agree to the EULA.

Re: xorg.conf - hal

Yeah, it definetely does override my config, because if I run gdm with hal stopped, graphics seem OK, but input devices are dead. I have to work on that, that's no biggie. What is a problem, I kinda need hal for other services. Is there a way of telling hal what to do and what not to do?
