PKGBUILD question

I'm trying to get the catalyst drivers for my 4870 X2, and X is too up to date. I have X versions all the way back to 7.0, but no farther. Is it possible to slightly modify a PKGBUILD from a newer X version to build and install 6.9.0? I'd rather not screw up my X install unless there's a chance it might work out.
