How do you enable the special keys on your laptop such as:
-volume up/down, mute
-back,forward,play/pause,stop
-DVD

Just use xev to find out the keycodes of your special keys and then bind some functional support (e.g. run a bash script that controls the volume) with tools such as xbindkeys to them.
