I think todays libjpg update broke compiz jpeg plugin. I noticed after the update that my wallpaper did not appear which is handled by compiz. I checked ccsm and the jpeg plugin is broken. Error log says it can't open 'libjpeg.so.7'.
Edit: I just found the same problem with OpenOffice aswell.

Probably. The libjpeg/libpng rebuild is on going... A big warning was posted to arch-dev-public and you should be reading that list as a [testing] user.

do you have community-testing enabled?
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Install libjpeg7 from AUR.
I wonder why packages like that are not part of official repositories to help with the conversion?

Because it will not be needed by the time this moves away from testing...

What packages are left to rebuild so far?

At least go-openoffice...
And the problem will remain for things like google chrome (libpng). Which is only in AUR so I guess it is not a problem with official repos...

So if I install ' libjpeg7 from AUR I could enable testing again ! , ; my understanding correct ?

Almost all the games as well.

Which could be some time, so in the mean time install the package from AUR like mentioned.

No, FIRST enable [testing], update to it, and THEN install libjpeg7 and libpn12 from AUR

You are using the [community-testing] repo as well as the [testing] repo... Apart from openoffice variants, only a handful of packages remain to be build and none of them have anything to do with compiz.

no, first enable [testing] and [community-testing], find out bugs and report them and after that, try to rebuild the package yourself. if is a closed source application then you may install those from aur.

Thank You for the confirmation on this ; enable testing , [ community-testing is enabled already ] ,
update , let it crash the error message :
GDM-binary[1941] : WARNING : GdmDisplay ; displaylasted 1.663504 seconds
THEN install libjpeg7 and libpng12 from AUR
, right ?
forgot the ' g ' ! ( libpnG : copy paste to much ! )

from the pacman.conf i see you got testing disabled but community-testing enable. i also see you have additional repository for compiz-fusion(which we don't support and maybe you got compiz from there).
also by any chance you are using other cairo package rather the one from our repo?

yep, after upgrading from testing, you have to recompile cairo-lcd and then reinstall gtk2(you need that to regenerate some stuff in etc.

cairo-lcd 1.8.8-1 - Tho being flagged out-of-date , ' Comment by: mango on Wed, 20 Jan 2010 18:47:10 +0000 '
It appears its up-to-date ? Who's responsibility to " unflag " ? , anyone or maintainer ?
Recent comment mean it is , correct ?

Reboot and Joy to the World , eh . Or som'tin to that effect .
Ya know , on second thought I'd like to gracefully regress ; these forums and the Wiki
are here at our disposal and I've yet to find valid gripes against/about the help system in place
especially with what I've got myself into and out of with you alls help. And searching .
I'll follow , http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Makepkg , thats what its there for ,
and besides this is something well worth learning for future escapades and package management.
I'll get off my soapbox and No this wasn't for a bump. Thanks again wonder .
