How to get intel_hda working with pulseaudio?

Hi, this is my second try installing arch linux and everything is completely a breeze to set up except for my sound card. I have an intel_hda sound card and I want to get digital out working. I followed the pulseaudio wiki but when I load up the pulse audio volume control in gnome and goto the configuration tab it says "No cards available for configuration".

When I manually try to run 'start-pulseaudio-x11' it says:
Failure: Module initalization failed

Any ideas on how to get pulse to find my soundcard?
