Why there are no pkg.tar.gz Arch packages available to download from the site but only sources, I know i can get it by pacman -S <package> but it would be nice to have links on the main site to those packages too, something like www.linuxpackages.net

What y'all think?

I must admit, I have found myself searching through the packages, and then clicking on the package filename, expecting it to be a link for download. Just a habit I suppose.

However, I don't think it's a good idea to download from the page. Why not just do it via pacman?

Say you don't know the name of a package, you are helpless with pacman
But you can browse through the packages at the website though, it's easier when you just look around... I mean we should have both opportunities - downloading via pacman or via a website, it's not that hard to add links to all the packages, as for right now i got in my browser bookmarked this site

Check the man page for

pacman -Ss

Also, the package interface will eventually be scrapped in favour of the new AUR system. It promises to be more user friendly, and will likely contain the package link you seek. If it doesn't, you can file a bug report at that time. Right now the current stuff is kind of frozen as the devs finalize the new system.

Maybe it's an idea to see the filesize of a package, i miss that option

Right now i like it that we see the list of dependencies, it's nice.

It would be also nice to see the list of files in each individual package,

But once you've found it on the site, you have the package name!

I wouldn't mind a feature whereby things were setup whereby you click a link to a package from the webpage, and then it gets passed to pacman via the browser. Pacman takes over, downloads any deps etc. That would make sense. Otherwise, you download, then you have to switch to a console and type pacman -U /path/to/downloaded/package.tar.gz (or whatever the command may be, I'm not sure, i've never tried it this way). Surely it's easier to lookup the package name, then pacman -S package?

You really should read the manpage for pacman.
man pacman

Many of the things you are requesting are already features implemented.

Isn't the entire website package list redundant with pacman?

I guess I like redundancy and wasting space. There are times when I like to use pacman and times when I like to use the website package list.
